High performance freeze-dried qPCR and qRT-PCR mastermixes maximize shelf life and minimize costs
Tuesday, 15 March 2016
Cambio has become the exclusive UK distributor for Fluorogenics reagents. Fluorogenics supplies lyophilised molecular biological reagents to the life sciences and clinical in vitro diagnostics (IVD) sectors. The company is widely respected for the design, development and validation of its molecular reagents, specialising in the provision of ambient stored products.
Take their PCR reagents. Unlike conventional PCR reagents that require both cold transport and cold storage and typically expire within a year, lyophilised reagents can be stored at ambient temperature for up to two years minimising cost, packaging and environmental impact. (Lyophilisation is the creation of a stable preparation of a substance by rapid freezing and dehydration – freeze drying – of the frozen product under high vacuum.)
Before Fluorogenics arrived, no single vendor could provide the capability it does today. Fluorogenics offers more than just contract development and the manufacture of lyophilised reagents. They also help customers solve key reagent challenges including: consumable design, supply chain support, project planning, and research and development.
Fluorogenics products include nucleic acid amplification reagents that can be stored at ambient temperatures (15-30°C) for up to two years.
The company has developed a series of vial-based core mixes designed to be flexible in use, and not tied to any specific platform or analyser. The contents of each vial can be dissolved and used in combination with a variety of other reagents on many different platforms using the appropriate manufacturers’ machine-specific plastic-ware. The mixes represent exceptional performance, flexibility and good value with the key advantage of ambient storage. Other benefits include ease-of-use with less pipetting, thereby minimising PCR contamination and volumetric pipetting errors, thought to be one of the main sources of experimental variability in qPCR and qRT-PCR analyses.
There are several products in the class:
- Cirrus: Lyophilised qPCR and qRT-PCR mastermixes
- Cyxi: A general purpose Hot-Start PCR reagent available for both DNA and RNA amplification
- Generix: A general purpose entry level reagent available for DNA-only amplification
Alongside these vial-based products, Fluorogenics also offers plate-based versions. These are core mixes prepared in 96-well plates or 8-well strips. Cirrus Strips comprisea qPCR or qRT-PCR mastermix in convenient 8-well strips with individual well seals.
Cambio is delighted to offer these exciting, competitively priced products from Fluorogenics alongside their expanding molecular biology product offering. If you’re not sure how they could work for you, contact us for free samples of selected reagents in the range.
