Product description
The SDS reagent is an anionic detergent that denatures secondary and non-disulfide-linked tertiary protein structures. It applies a negative charge to each protein in proportion to its mass. SDS binds in a ratio of approximately 1.4 g SDS per 1.0 g protein, unfolding it to give a near-uniform negative charge along the length of the polypeptide chain. As a result, the distance of migration through the gel in SDS-PAGE electrophoresis can be assumed to be directly related only to the size of the protein.
Features
- Prepared from analytical grade reagent
- Anionic detergent
- Denaturing agent used in SDS-PAGE
- Choice of tablets and powder in pouches
- Dissolve and use in minutes
Medicago’s SDS reagent is supplied in pre-weighed tablets. One tablet weighs 0.5 g and can be dissolved in deionized water to the desired volume and concentration. SDS reagent powder mix in pouches give 1000 ml of 10% or 20% sodium dodecyl sulphate solution.
Directions for use
Empty one pouch or deposit one tablet of the SDS reagent in a laboratory flask or beaker placed on a magnetic stirrer. Add 300 ml of deionized water and stir the solution for a few minutes. Adjust the volume up to 1000 ml, stir until full dissolution and the solution is ready to use.
Deposit one tablet of the SDS reagent in a laboratory flask or beaker placed on a magnetic stirrer. Add deionized water and stir the solution for a few minutes until full dissolution. Adjust the volume up to required concentration and the solution is ready to use.
Shipping and storage
The SDS reagent is shipped at room temperature. Store the tablets and pouches in a dry place at room temperature. Shelf life is three years after production date.
